What is morbid curiosity and where are the boundaries?
People use the term morbid curiosity without really thinking about what it means. Often morbidity has curiosity with sex. That is why we say that morbid things are attractive to some people.



But people also stamp other behaviors like morbid curiosity. For example, someone wants to know details about someone else's privacy. Or when people enjoy seeing bloody or extremely violent images.
There is also a medical definition that uses the term to talk about diseases. They are called "morbid" states. So, we can define morbid things like everything that makes one think about mental illnesses. People often associate it with perversion, but not always. So what is morbid curiosity?

Morbid curiosity is one of our fundamental impulses. It is part of our instinctive package, which also includes our basic needs, such as sleeping, eating, socializing and having sex.
We can define morbid curiosity as a need to see, feel, hear, touch or interact with something that is viewed as socially prohibited. It's a force that pushes you to get in touch with these things and experience enjoyment. It is the pleasure of exceeding standards or climbing into a world of forbidden things.

This takes many shapes. Pornography satisfies, for example, people's curiosity, but also allows them to "go beyond" common sexual relationships. It attracts people because it goes beyond the usual limits, and it brings with it its own kind of extra pleasure.

The key to morbid curiosity is overdrive as a form of enjoyment.

Characteristics of morbid curiosity
The dictionary teaches that this concept is an obsession with forbidden things. We generally associate it with being too risky. But it is also associated with pleasure, almost always in a sexual way. But it is worth adding texture to this.

All morbid impulses are not harmful. Sometimes they are just playful and a way to explore new pleasures.
What usually worsens morbid curiosity in people is all that is mysterious. Or anything that gives a picture of being unthinkable. It means anything that is not common to experience or anything that breaks away from what is "normal".

In pathological cases, it entails attraction to objects prohibited by family standards, mental health or social order. These are cases when there is an attraction to family members, children, etc. These are cases where morbid curiosity definitely engages in perpetual and diseased territory.

Things forbidden and things taken
Fantasy plays a big role in sexuality. Often sexual attraction has much more to do with what you represent than what you actually see. What you can not see on the surface becomes a source of urgency.

There are cultures where women do not wear anything above the waist. Seeing them does not lead to excitement among the people of these communities. But for someone belonging to a society where women always cover the breasts, it can be very excitement.

A large part of eroticism is about what is suggested rather than offered. Many passions grow when they involve crossing any kind of boundary. And that's how morbid curiosity works.

Healthy and unhealthy morbid curiosity
When it comes to this concept, the same basic rules apply as with sexuality. If both agree, it's generally okay. Although it is something that others would stamp as "dirty", "cruel" or "bizarre". The only condition is that those involved accept the actions.
Mario Vargas Llosa says that the issues that challenge bias are what is valid in the erotic sphere. But it is not acceptable when it reduces the sexual act and the people in it. So when something becomes physical, empty of emotion.

And of course it is also true when only one of the people has the specific curiosity. Then you only try to reduce the other person to something, a means, a tool. In these circumstances, the morbid curiosity is pervert and extremely destructive to all involved.
